At 405 acres, Turkey Run Wildlife Area is the largest public hunting area in Jefferson County. With the Cedar Creek to the North and the Van Buren County line to the south, this area is roughly 90 percent timber providing excellent habitat for wild turkey, deer, squirrels, rabbits and upland game birds.
The park also has a five-acre wetland area developed for waterfowl habitat, a canoe and kayak access to the Cedar Creek, and a mix of prairie, pine tree plantings, and wildlife food plots.
The park is a favorite for local equestrians who enjoy the equestrian primitive camp area and six miles of horseback riding trails. No horseback riding is allowed October 1-January 31 or during spring turkey hunting.
